The Rose Festival
During the month of May there is an annual three-day Rose Festival. It takes place in the pink town of El-Kelaa M’Gouna also known as the Valley of the Roses. At the Rose Festival there is delicious food, singing, dancing, people displaying sword tricks and people playing traditional musical instruments. As well as that there is also a parade of floral decorated floats where the young girls who wish to be crowned Ms. Roses sit upon. What makes this festival unique are the rose perfumed streets, Moroccan women wearing traditional head scarves decorated with bright coloured velvety flowers, and boys and girls wearing rose-garlands. There are camel-rides, and the option to take an excursion to the Valley of the Roses. The purpose of the festival is for rose farmers to celebrate the year’s crops and to celebrate the beauty of nature. The Rose Festival is one of the prettiest and most popular celebrations in Morocco.
